The Central Sydney Tower expansion project has officially received approval from the City of Sydney. The approval is a result of the submission of a proposal for an addition that was created by FJMT.

The Central Sydney Tower expansion project fronts right along the Elizabeth, Park, and Castlereagh streets within the city center. Additionally, it is also right opposite Hyde park.

Central Sydney Tower expansion project aims for new sustainability targets

The project aims to transform the current mixed-use structure with more activated street engagement. Its scope of work features a podium extension to the current, existing tower. The new podium will feature new sustainability targets. In fact, the development is targeting a 5-star Green Star rating and the Gold WELL Certification.

Furthermore, the project is also targeting the 4-Star NABERS Water rating as well as the 5-star NABERS Energy rating. Additionally, the new podium will include a facade that incorporates solar photovoltaic panels for onsite power generation. Overall, the project strives to introduce a contemporary interpretation of the current tower’s architecture.

The project will include upgrades to the tower lobby as well as the courtyard. Additionally, the extension will add a further 8,600 square meters of office space alongside an eloquently landscaped roof terrace. The project is also set to include a revitalized ground with 900 additional square meters of brand-new retail space.

According to the developer, Charter Hall, the project will majorly contribute to the enhancement and reinvigoration of the 1978 structure. The development’s site is close to transportation precincts such as the new Sydney Metro Pitt Street Station. Due to opening in 2024, the metro project will extend to the tower further helping it maximize the eastern views of the Harbour.

Quite impressively, the Central Sydney Tower Expansion Project will be amongst the very first to commit to the City of Sydney’s 2023 25% energy reduction targets.
