Construction of a multi-million casino in Cape Verde has been launched in what has been touted as the most modern gaming resort in Africa.Macau Legend, is the firm behind the construction of the casino.
The USD250 million gaming resort is being constructed at Praia, the capital of the picturesque islands of Cape Verde. The facility will occupy 152,700 square-meters and will be an integrated resort and gaming facility along with facilities such as function areas, a marina, a convention center, retail outlets, and an array of restaurants once the complex is complete. The top class facility will take three years to complete.
Cape Verde may not be famous for such gaming resort but the move to construct such a top notch resort is seen as a deliberate move by the government to boost tourists visiting the country. Cape Verde plans to increase its tourism numbers from the current 60,000 to 1 million and it therefore banks on the facility to realize the ambition.
Macau Legend co-chairman David Chow, the Co-Chariman and chief executive Officer of Macau Legend, laid the first stone during a ceremony to start the construction process. He said that the political stability in the Portuguese speaking country was the main reason that informed the decision to construct a Casino there.
Chow added that with a number of international routes connected to the rest of the world, it is able to attract tourists from North Africa, West Africa, Europe, South America, Central America and the Caribbean, thereby creating a new market, especially with the trend that more and more Chinese are emigrating and investing in these places and this saves them from flying long to Asia.
Tourism in Cape Verde is the main foreign exchange earner. The sector in 2014 accounted for 22 per cent of its local GDP and is thriving tremendously.
