Hutchison Ports Sohar, a joint venture between Hutchison Ports, Rakiza (Oman Infrastructure Investment Management) and other Omani investors has begun construction works for its new solar powered integrated inspection facility. 

The Hutchison Ports Sohar solar powered integrated inspection facility project, which is part of the terminal’s development plan that aims to improve inbound and outbound container inspection services, and to further support Oman Customs and other related authorities to seamlessly turnover inspection with enhanced measures, will cost approximately US$ 30M.

Accelerating custom inspection process

Covering a vast total area of 37, 000 square meters within the premises of Terminal C, the Hutchison Ports Sohar solar powered integrated inspection facility project is expected to be completed by mid-2023.

It will be the largest as well as the first integrated one-stop-shop for all related and relevant government authorities in handling all matters concerning clearance in the Sultanate.

The facility has reportedly been designed to ease the process of releasing the goods from the container terminal. It will utilize X-ray container scanners, and it will be able to distinguish between containers with low risk and high risk.

Remarks on the Hutchison Ports Sohar solar powered integrated inspection facility project

The CEO of Sohar, Mark Geilenkirchen, stated that the facility will contribute toward a positive transformative shift in the clearance process. He expressed that the Hutchison Ports Sohar Inspection Facility project is one of Sohar’s biggest success stories and is delighted by the company’s progress.

He further added that the facility will remarkably expand the terminal’s capability and ability to serve the growing community needs through a superior one-stop-shop service station. He concluded by saying that the new facility in the terminal will play a vital role in attracting world-class tenants to the complex alongside improving customer satisfaction and experience.
