The city of Fort Wayne, Indiana, has announced that construction is set to begin within the following month on The Lofts at Headwaters Park. The project is projected to cost more than US$67 million and will feature residential space, 12,000 square feet of commercial space, and a 650-place parking garage. The Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission has chosen Bunn Construction, located in Fort Wayne, to execute the site work, which will involve soil and tree removal. According to the city, the building project would eventually entail the planting of more than 71 trees on the site, which will outnumber those destroyed during the site work.

Barrett & Stokely, located in Indianapolis, is developing The Lofts at Headwaters Park. The same firm also invested in The Riverfront at Promenade Park, a $87 million project now under development across from Promenade Park at the junction of Harrison and Superior Streets. The Lofts at Headwaters Park are scheduled to begin construction in the summer of 2022 after the soil removal and site work is completed in the spring. During this renovation, certain nearby lanes, roads, and walkways will be closed, however, alternate routes will be established.

Commentary on The Lofts at Headwaters Park

“We’ve been meeting for well over a year now, hammering out the details with all of the festival organizers on where people would park, how people will receive their signs, and other such things.” The new parking garage being developed by the same developers at the Riverfront Promenade project over at Promenade Park, fortunately, and thankfully, will be open. This environmental remediation and soil removal is a critical step in the development of the Lofts at Headwaters Park. This project will help attract new development and investment, which is essential for our downtown,” said Nancy Townsend, Director of the City’s Community Development Division.
