The contract for the first phase of the National Road No.32 project has officially been awarded. The contract for the project was awarded by Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (Opaz). Opaz is a governmental body in the Sultanate of Oman.

National Road No.32 is located within the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (Sezad), the biggest special economic zone in the Middle East region. It has a length of about 16 km. The first phase starts from the road in front of Duqm Refinery northwards, and to the entrance of Duqm centre southwards.

Scope of the National Road No.32 Project

The project’s construction works will include the construction of six traffic lanes. The lanes will have a width of 120 meters. Moreover, they will be separated by a hardscaped centre median. The works will also include the construction of 4 signalized intersections, as well as one roundabout.

Furthermore, the National Road No.32 project will include the installation of smart lighting poles (LED) and road signs. The road is reportedly designed with high specifications to avoid the accumulation of surface water and flooding. This is thanks to the proposed construction of 3 major concrete bridges for the wadis in Say, Jurf, and Dangert.

Expectations for the project

In charge of managing operations of Sezad, Eng. Yahya bin Khamis Al-Zadjali stated that the project is an essential traffic artery. Yahway explained that the project would connect those coming from the north of the zone to the centre.

The National Road No.32 project aims to serve the ever-growing movement of cargo and people. The road will also be designed with high specifications. These high specifications will be put in place to avoid floods as well as the accumulation of surface water.
