The construction of New Garden City Neighborhood (also known as the R5 district) in the New Administrative Capital (NAC), a large-scale project of a new capital city in Egypt that has been under construction since 2015, is almost done with works currently at 92 percent complete.

This was revealed by the Egyptian Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem al-Gazar on Monday the 19th of April 2021.

Facing Central Park, the neighborhood consists of 21,953 residential units of different designs and sizes ranging between 60 to 200 square meters, 459 villas, 385 buildings encompassing 21,494 flats, and 513 commercial units. It also includes other establishments such as educational, sports, commercial, entertainment, and medical facilities.

The architectural style of the neighborhood is inspired by the classic French style to resemble downtown Cairo’s Garden City area which it is named after.

The project is part of the Egyptian government’s plan to expand urban areas to deal with the country’s rapid population growth and improve the nation’s infrastructure.

Downtown Cairo’s Garden City area

The downtown Garden City is a wealthy residential district in Central Cairo that spans the east side of the Nile.

It is the location of the famous Midan Tahrir (Tahrir Square), and it is known for its quiet, upscale, and secure atmosphere. It is also a major destination for wealthy tourists and home to the United States, British, and Italian Embassies.
