The federal government has authorized N42 billion for road construction in five NorthEast states. This was a result of the Federal Executive Council meeting that took place at State House in Abuja.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, made this known while she was breefing newsmen.

Overview of the NorthEast Roads Construction Projects

She claimed in her statement that she submitted four letters to the FEC for their approval for road development and restoration in five North Eastern states. These states include Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, and Bauchi.

Her words: “For Borno, we have 22.5km road that is to be built. This road is Ngom-Koshebe and Ngom-Zabarmari-Gongulong-Kajari road with the contract value of N13,553,902,668.95. The second contract is for the reconstruction of the 53km Gombe-Abba-Dukurfi Road with the contract sum of N11,697,355,449.61.

“The other road is the 54 kilometer Mutayi-Ngalda road in Yobe state with the contract value of N12,199,182,845.70.

“The fourth one is the one for Garkida road in Adamawa State, it has a contract sum of N6,202,214,413.29.”

Furthermore, Sadiya noted that the State governments and other important stakeholders were involved in the consideration and selection of all the mentioned NorthEast road construction projects. Additionally, it is predicted that the roads will allow for free movement of people and goods in the affected states.

Parastatals Involved in The NorthEast Road Construction Projects

Sadiya stated that her ministry collaborated with the Ministry of Works and Housing to co-fund the various road construction in five Northeast states.

She said, “The ministry is in collaboration with the Ministry of Works and Housing to jointly fund the numerous road construction in the Northeast region. The Northeastern population has been negatively impacted by the insurgency, and the Development Commission was established to address these issues.

“In accordance with Executive Order No. 5 for the promotion of local content in science, engineering, and technology, we are also in partnership and collaboration with the Nigerian Society of Engineers in the area of hiring reputable local consultants for the design and supervision of the major works. The council thoughtfully studied each of the four memos and enthusiastically endorsed them.
