Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) has invited firms to bid for the implementation of Saudi Arabia’s 2km tower project. The invite for bids entails a project management consultancy (PMC) in a new central business district on the outskirts of Riyadh. Inclusive of this bid is the proposed 2-kilometer mega tall tower project. Furthermore, the PMC role covers both the tower and the surrounding district. The request for proposals (RFP) is understood to have been issued by a PIF subsidiary known as the Tower District Real Estate Development Company.

The initial close date was March 4 and has been extended till March 20. Proposed bidders for Saudi Arabia’s 2km tower project include Aecom, Bechtel, and Jacobs. Furthermore, US-based Parsons and Turner are also interested as well as UK’s Mace. Foster & Partners is working as the architect on the mega-tall tower. This is after the company won a design competition launched in late 2022.

The Significance of Saudi Arabia’s 2KM Tower Project

Once completed, Saudi Arabia’s 2km tower project is expected to more than double the height of the world’s tallest building. The current is Dubai’s Burj Khalifa which is 828 meters in height. Furthermore, it will also be several hundred meters taller than the 1,000-meter-plus tall tower in Jeddah. Recently, US-based Turner secured a position as the project manager for the monumental project. The company was also the project manager for the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which has been the world’s tallest building since 2010. Turner’s appointment in the project manager role on the Jeddah Tower comes amid other signs of progress.

The concrete pouring work of the tower began on January 20, marking the official recommencement of construction works. Contractors in the region note that a 2km-tall structure could cost about $5 billion to construct depending on the final design. Saudi Arabia’s 2km tower project and the surrounding CBD are part of a larger masterplanned development. Located north of Riyadh, the masterplan is known as the North Pole, and an RFP to re-masterplan that development is expected to be issued soon.
