All the roadworks for the Hobart Airport Interchange have officially been completed. The interchange is currently, fully operational.

The Hobart Airport Interchange plays a significant role in the $350 million upgrade of the Tasman Highway into Hobart. Following the project’s completion, the landscaping works along the highway are set to be done by 2023.

Hobart airport interchange project expands freight and commuter capacity

For the project, the Australian Government contributed a total of $37.1 million. Meanwhile, the Tasmanian Government invested a total of $9.3 million.Jointly funded by the two governments the project is a part of the South East Traffic Solution.

Overall, the bigger project strives to provide a consistent four-lane highway that runs between the Hobart CBD and Sorell.

The interchange serves as a replacement for a roundabout, that was nearing capacity due to a large increase in freight traffic as well as commuters. More especially from fast-growing residential areas around Hobart and Sorell’s Southern Beaches areas.

The project will support the planned improvement to the Hobart International Airport in catering to more freight and tourists. It features on and off-ramps from the highway accessing the airport on Kennedy Drive, Cranston Parade, and Holyman Avenue.

Remarks on the project

Catherine King, the Minster for Federal Infrastructure, Transport, and Regional Development, spoke about the project.

Anchored by the ambition to provide seamless travel, the Hobart Airport Interchange project is working to enhance growth. The project also aims to curate a safer journey and traveling path for all road users.

In addition to Catherine King’s statements, the Federal Assistant Minister for Infrastructure also spoke about the project. Carol Brown, noted that being a part of the South East Traffic Solution, the project’s progress has contributed to the bigger project’s overall progress as well.

As it now stands, the airport interchange is the third major project to have been completed in 2022.
