Ivorian developer Tongon Solaire has signed an agreement with the government of Ivory Coast for a 52 MW solar plant. The M’Bengue Solar Plant is set for commissioning before the end of 2027.

Tongon Solaire reached an agreement to construct a solar plant in the town of M’Bengue in Ivory Coast’s northern Poro region. Also, the solar project will be developed under a build, own, operate and transfer model.

Furthermore, according to Tongon Solaire General Manager Abdul Soukpafolo Koné, the project is expected to meet the annual energy needs of 30,000 households. This capacity will be achieved once it kicks off fully its operations.

Additionally, Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly, the country’s Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, said that the contributions of solar plants currently under development will incease Ivory Coast’s solar capacity. The capacity will be increased from 42 MW this year to 925 MW by 2030.

The 50 MW Bondoukou solar power plant is one of several projects under development in Ivory Coast. Dubai-based developer Amea Power began construction in February.

Other Solar Projects in the Country

In the year 2024, the government of Ivory Coast signed agreements for the Ferkessédougou, Kong and Katiola solar plants with capacities of 52 MW, 50 MW and 50 MW, respectively. These solar projects are part of 12 planned solar projects with a combined capacity of 678 MW.

Also, in the month of June, the country’s state-run utility Ci-Energies launched two tenders for the construction of 100 MW solar plants. Each of the solar projects will be connected to 33 MWh of storage capacity.
