Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corporation has announced that it would extend its operations in Missouri by constructing a manufacturing facility in Boonville, creating more than 270 new jobs. The new plant will assist the firm in meeting the growing demand for general-purpose engines used in lawn and garden goods. Work on the new plant is expected to begin this month, with production set to begin in May 2022. The firm attributes continuing expansion in the state to the state’s workforce development initiative, Missouri One Start. For almost 30 years, Kawasaki has utilized the state’s training programs, most recently establishing 110 new positions in Maryville in 2020 with help from Missouri One Start.

“Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp., U.S.A. is thrilled about the extension to the Boonville neighborhood, which will relieve heavy demand at Maryville and allow our firm to develop and expand capacity.” We were lucky to locate a site with a hometown feel and a strong work culture, as evidenced by Boonville leaders’ devotion. We are grateful to the Missouri Department of Economic Development, the Boonslick Community Development Corporation (BCDC), the Industrial Development Authority of the City of Boonville (IDA), Ameren, the Cooper County Commission, the City of Boonville, Big Industrial, and others who have provided valuable incentive programs and assistance in getting this project off the ground,” Anita Coulter, Corporate Deputy Director of Administration for Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp., U.S.A. and Maryville Plant Manager, remarked
Kawasaki Motors employed the Missouri Works program for this expansion, which is a mechanism that helps firms expand and retain workers by giving access to cash through withholdings or tax credits for job development. Missouri One Start, a subsidiary of the Department of Economic Development, is also assisting the firm. Missouri One Start provides assistance to qualified businesses of all sizes with their recruiting and training requirements.
