Modern commercial complex-Kigali Heights has won the Africa Property of the Year award; this is according to a statement from the Africa Property Investment (API) Summit & Expo 2017.
The development in Rwanda which provides retail office spaces won the award in the Best Mixed-Use Development category. The facility is a host to some of the big retail brands and banking institutions in Rwanda and beyond.
A Kenyan equity firm-Fusion Group did the construction of the 300,000 metres project mixed use development at tune of US$40m. .
Criteria of judging Kigali Heights
Judging on a wide range of criteria including infrastructure, location, transport access among other things, the complex managed to emerge victorious. Moreover, its integration into environment, originality of its concept as well as technical and architectural quality was spot on.
Also, the mega development was judged on service offered, sensitivity to the local community, innovation, sustainability and corporate staff involvement. Further, the response to market demands, financial performance, occupancy and the impact of the project on economic convergence were also determinants.

“This award is of great honour to us, our city and country. We worked hard not just to be awarded but to give Kigali the best it deserves and I am glad our efforts bore fruits,” said Dennis Karera, the Chairman of Kigali Heights Development Company.
Other winners
Other winners include; Garden City in Nairobi (Best Green Building in Sub-Saharan Africa), Kumasi City Hall in Ghana (Best Retail Development). Also, Accra Financial Centre in Ghana won (Best Commercial High-Rise Development), Strand Hotel in Namibia (Best Hotel Development).
In the Best Housing Development, Karibu Homes in Kenya scooped the award and Rain Torres in Mozambique took home Best Architectural Design.
The Africa Property Investment Awards recognizes innovation and outstanding achievement across the African property industry in seven categories. However, this is the first ever award the organization has done.
