Officials from the Federation International Football Association (FIFA) have been monitoring and inspecting the Nakivubo Stadium construction, to ensure that all FIFA requirements and construction procedures, as well as steps of an internationally recognized football stadium, are followed accordingly.
Nakivubo Stadium is currently 75% complete. The facility will stage sporting activities for 35,000 spectators. It will also house other facilities for athletics, netball, bodybuilding, basketball, volleyball, boxing, and other sports.

Apart from the regular section, the stadium will have VIP and VVIP. It will also have executive wings with 20 seats each and a range of amenities.
More on the projectÂ
On top of the elegant dressing rooms, this world-class facility will also have six restaurants, two 300-seat cinema halls, medical rooms for both the home and visiting teams, and referee rooms, among other facilities.
The stadium’s construction had stalled due to COVID-19. This resulted in a protracted lockdown and a high cost of production. The initial completion date for the stadium was planned for 2019.
The facility would have been completed in 2025. Uganda will host its national, continental, and international games at Nakivubo Stadium. This is because the construction team has conducted surveys in countries with internationally renowned stadiums. Also, nice ideas are being implemented in Uganda.
The developer is fully committed to keeping his promise to Ugandans to build the modern facility.
What delayed the completion of the Nakivubo Stadium
Covid-19 had a major impact on him to the extent that the initially planned USD 50 million increased to approximately USD 150 million. This is due to the high cost of production, and the need to transport materials from other countries. Additionally, Covid-19 limited the movement of international football facility inspectors.Â
Ugandans can be assured that the developer of this modern stadium, Hajji Hamis Kiggundu, is on track to complete the project soon. Also, this would show the ability of Ugandans to perform at the top.
Realistically, this is more than just a stadium. It is a legacy and a strong clear indication that if Uganda is to develop, it is the duty of Ugandans to advance their motherland.

Concerns raised as work on Uganda’s Nakivubo Stadium continues
The ongoing construction work at Nakivubo stadium has created doubt among the football fraternity that maybe one of the all-time football stadiums will be no more.
In January this year, thousands of Parkyard market vendors in downtown Kampala were evicted to pave way for development work in and around Nakivubo war memorial stadium. Already, there are demolitions being carried out in the stadium.
The Board of Nakivubo stadium mandated city tycoon Hamis Kiggundu popularly known as Ham to reconstruct the stadium with the hope that it will become a world-class stadium with quite a number of facilities.

Ham contracted Roko Construction, a renowned construction company in Uganda to handle the re-development plan. Ham and Roko vehemently deny the allegation that the construction going on in the stadium has left little or no land at all for the playing surface.
Aine Ashaba an engineer from Roko Construction and the project manager assured the public that the plan displayed in the artistic impression is the one they are following until now.
The whole project is supposed to take 5 years but Aine promised that by the end of the three years most of the work will be done and someone will be able to see the physical structures of the stadium itself.
The stadium is expected to accommodate around 30000 spectators, a modern lighting system, announcing boards, big screens, other indoor games, a very big VIP section plus so much more that would make the stadium a modern facility under FIFA rules.
Roko construction has gone ahead to seek counsel from some of the companies that were behind the construction of the different stadiums in South Africa to enhance quality work.
