New Bridges into Terminals A, B, and C at DFW Airport Set to Enter Next Phase

Home » New Bridges into Terminals A, B, and C at DFW Airport Set to Enter Next Phase

New bridges connecting to Terminals A, B, and C at DFW Airport are set to enter the next phase of construction. DFW is set to launch the next major phase of its International Parkway modernization— a showcase project in the airport’s overall $9 billion Capital Improvement Program. Beginning the first week of August, temporary detours will be introduced to accommodate the integration of a new bridge connection into Terminal B’s existing roadway system, a milestone in the reconstruction of roadways leading into Terminals A, B, and C.

Traffic to and from the terminals will be rerouted for approximately 90 days. Passengers heading to Terminal B will only be able to enter from the southbound lanes of International Parkway. Those traveling from the north will need to drive past the terminals, make a U-turn, and then proceed southbound to utilize the temporary left-hand entrance. In the same way, traffic exiting Terminal A will be directed to the North Exit, with a designated U-turn area available for those needing to travel southbound. Ample signage will be implemented to guide navigators through the new routes.

This modification is included in a $250+ million remodeling of International Parkway to improve safety, traffic flow, and wayfinding throughout DFW. The new layout includes three new right-hand exits to Terminals A, B, and C — a notable departure from the current left-side configurations — and a complete remodel of the North U-turn for better geometry and safer maneuvering.

Design-build team

Archer Western Construction and Jacobs are delivering the project through a design-build partnership, working with airport leadership and numerous stakeholders to maintain ongoing operations at one of the busiest airports in the world.

As the new bridges connecting to Terminals A, B, and C at DFW Airport move into the next phase of construction, the team has accomplished significant milestones, including setting 141 structural beams on four bridge spans — creating more than 3,300 feet of new elevated roadway. Workers completed this task over 12 nighttime shifts, using 6,500 labor hours, 18 cranes (including a 900-ton unit), and more than 13 million pounds of concrete and steel. The beams span more than 15,000 linear feet in total, longer than DFW’s longest runway.

Beyond these bridges, the entire International Parkway project involves replacing bridge structures more than five decades old and updating 46 high-mast light poles with new energy-efficient LED lighting. The team has structured construction in phases to minimize disruption to the airport’s daily operations.

Construction began in 2024 and will continue through 2026. When finished, the new facilities will offer a more intuitive traveler experience for millions of annual passengers — in line with DFW’s overall vision for a more modern, efficient, and resilient airport.

With over 180 individual projects planned through fiscal year 2029, the redevelopment of International Parkway is just one aspect of a much larger investment in shaping the future of air travel at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).
