The newly built Kabale Central Market, built by the Chinese company Chongqing International Construction (CICO), has been handed over to the government.

The market was handed over in a ceremony attended by ReceCompany project manager Mou Shaojiu and the Ministry of Infrastructure Engineer Emmanuel Mwebaze. The Municipal Authorities, headed by the Mayor of Kabale Municipality Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha were also present.

The Local Government Ministry contracted Chongqing International Construction (CICO) in December 2019 to construct the market at the center of Kabale town. The construction was projected to cost more than 23 billion shillings with financing coming partly from the African Development Bank and the Government of Uganda.

The Kabale Central Market project was a part of the Markets and Agricultural Trade Improvement Program II (MATIP II) project. It was expected to be completed sooner than now. CICO apologized to the vendors for the delays and cited challenges brought on especially by COVID-19.
