The Federal Government of Nigeria in collaboration with the National government of Morocco and the Jigawa State government, are working towards the development of a joint Solar Energy Project in Jigawa.
This was revealed by Sagir Musa Ahmed, Jigawa State Commissioner for Land, Housing, Urban and Regional Planning, during a Media Engagement Forum of the Jigawa State Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at Manpower Development Institute in Dutse.

He said that the planned Solar Energy Project in Jigawa will be developed on approximately 200,000 hectares of land in Gwiwa, a Local Government Area of Jigawa State and that the project aims to improve power generation and supply in the West African country, especially in Zamfara, Jigawa, Katsina and Yobe states.
Perfect timing for the Solar Energy Project in Jigawa
“We are focusing on how to project our progress over the next ten years as part of an efficient and effective territorial administration system, and therefore, the Solar Energy Project in Jigawa comes at a time of utmost importance as it joins several initiatives that have already been launched by the Nigerian government,” said the Jigawa State Commissioner for Land, Housing, Urban and Regional Planning.
These initiatives include industrial, and state and federal institution projects that up to 934,000 hectares of land have been set aside for, and the expansion and construction of new hospitals in just under 200,000 hectares.
Efforts to put in place sound urban planning initiatives
All these efforts/projects are focused on having the capacity to “put in place sound urban planning initiatives”, and therefore, the assistance of the North African country, whose weight in the region’s politics and economy is increasing owing to its exponential growth in overcoming the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, is essential to “create modern and developed cities in the near future”, explained Sagir Musa Ahmed.
