Popoola made the disclosure during a joint inspection of the project, which mainly involves reconstruction/rehabilitation of the expressway in a bid to resolve the Apapa traffic gridlock, with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) officials on Saturday, April 17, 2021.
NPA is a Federal Government Agency that governs and operates the Ports in Nigeria and from the gate of which the Apapa-Oshodi-Ojota-Oworonsoki expressway starts.
Project overview
The project was inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari in November 2018. It is divided into four sections. Section one spans from Liverpool Round through Creek Road to Beachland near Sunrise and is about 10 km. Section two on the other hand is approximately 8.4 km and spans from Beachland to Cele Bus Stop.
The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos assured that Hitech Construction Company, one of the leading Building & Civil Engineering Contractors in the West African country handling the project on behalf of the AG Dangote Construction Company Ltd, would complete the first section of the project in the course of the next three weeks and that the section would be made available to the motorists subsequently.
Furthermore, he said that the contractor is expected to move to the site to start the construction works on section two of the project based on agreement.
He also revealed that work on sections three and four had reached an advanced stage, with over 70% completion reached cumulatively.
