“Most of the buildings setbacks on this axis has interlocking tiles erected across canals, and this is against the physical planning regulations of the state of Lagos” explained Arc. Gbolahan Oki adding that the violators have a grace period of 3 days to remove all the illegal constructions, otherwise the State Government will take necessary actions against them.

The purpose of the setback areas

According to the LASBCA General Manager, the setback areas should be a green area reserved to help preserve the ecosystem in the state, help achieve the development plans in the state and make the environment organized and livable.

Arc. Gbolahan Oki also confirmed that the enforcement exercise would continue on buildings built without planning permits or not in conformity with construction regulations, adding that the exercise was also to intensify efforts to rid the state of illegal and unapproved building construction.

He appealed to the residents of the Lagos state to follow proper procedures in building construction works and obtain planning permits from the state government.
