Campaign Leader of Power For All Sierra Leone, Ami Dumbuya stated that off-grid solar and other renewable solutions can save lives in the state by powering medical equipment, refrigerating vaccines and elucidating emergency operations.

According to Ami Dumbuya, with off-grid solar and other renewable solutions, great opportunities can be created for kids by bringing electricity into households and educational institutions.

She was talking at a seminar organized for civil society and non-governmental organizations in the conference room of Concern Worldwide on Sierra Leone’s energy revolution and how their effort could sustain the goal of a clean modern energy for all and sundry.

“Neighborhood groups and CSOs working collectively with the government and private sector will boost the pace and impact of energy access and make certain that every family unit in the nation is given a chance to advance their future with clean safe energy,” she said.

She asserted that the Power For All campaign was an alliance of civil society and non-governmental organizations with the objective of promoting and campaigning for distributed renewable energy as the solution to attaining global energy access quicker, cheaper and in a more sustainable way.

The training, she stated was to enlighten and communicate on technological development and give insight on decentralized renewable energy in Sierra Leone and the world at large.

Kevin Johnstone, Renewable Energy Policy Advisor at Oxfam/IBIS noted: “Creating awareness around energy access and the renewable energy technologies that are accessible is vital to make sure that additional countryside homes can access and meet the expense of these ground-breaking solutions.”

He further said that the PRESSD-Sierra Leone project tries to draw attention to the significant task that CSOs can do in sustaining renewable energy solutions for the countryside poor.

In Sierra Leone, off-grid solar energy is already saving many rural families 10-15% of their weekly earnings, whilst renewable mini-grids, irrigation and machinery are powering community hospitals , schools, trades, rural banks and crop growing.
