The Onandjokwe state hospital is remodeling and rebuilding existing infrastructure in order to provide proper health services to the population.
The hospital, which first opened its doors in 1908, has recently fallen into ruin. Management, on the other hand, has begun a rigorous approach to giving the hospital a renovation. Dr. Akutu Munyika, the hospital’s medical superintendent, remarked that personnel remains focused on their work despite the hospital’s status.

Onandjokwe state hospital New Amenities
The Onandjokwe state hospital renovations will provide the hospital with enough room for its patients since current daily admissions exceed the 520-bed capacity.
Because of the great demand for beds, some hospitalized patients are placed on mattresses in the wards, according to Munyika.
A 100-bed refuge for pregnant women and a Covid-19 ward are two more initiatives that were recently finished.
Aside from bed capacity, the hospital has a high number of deliveries, with about 700 babies delivered each month. On average, 7 668 babies are delivered at Onandjokwe annually, prompting the extension of the 70 beds at the maternity ward.
Onandjokwe state hospital currently only has four delivery beds, and there are about 30 to 40 babies delivered daily.
A 120-bed maternity unit is being built at the hospital, and a 40-bed pre-fabricated maternity ward has already been finished. The maternity unit of the hospital will have a total of 160 beds once it is finished.
The project, according to Dr Siraji Saad Rwehumbiza, will be completed in January of next year. The building of the maternity unit began in 2016 and was scheduled to be completed in 2018, but there were delays in the project’s completion. A two-phase pediatric unit is also under construction at the hospital. The kitchen and the laundry room are two more projects that have been planned for renovation.
The building of the N$2 million administration block is also in the works.
