There will be 1,400 prisoner cells in the new structures, which will be located across from the current HMP Full Sutton. It will be a distinct building with a unique identity and name.

The zero-carbon smart prison in Full Sutton will be the third of six prisons built as part the New Prisons Programme. The other prisons established under this program include HMP Fosse Way in Glen Parva, Leicestershire, which is scheduled to open next year. The HMP Five Wells in Wellingborough, which was also constructed by Kier and inaugurated in February is also a part of the 6.

The latest prison’s contract price of £400 million is far greater than the agreed-upon construction costs of £53 million for Five Wells and £170 million for Fosse Way.
