Plans for the constructin of 4507 Main Street housing community in South Los Angeles have been announced. The announcement was made by EAH Housing in partnership with St. Joseph Center.

EAH Housing is one of the largest and most respected nonprofit housing development organizations in the western United States. St. Joseph Center on the other hand is one of Los Angeles’ largest providers of services for low-income and unhoused individuals and families.

The project which consists of affordabe and supportie units will be developed at 4507 Main Street in South Los Angeles, where it dericves its name.

Upon completion, the four-story 4507 Main Street housing community will consist of 61 affordable and supportive housing units. 31 of the units are reserved for the unhoused and chronically homeless. The reamaning, 30 units are made for low-income people.

Six parking spaces and more than 700 square feet of business space will also be part of the neighborhood. The project was designed by GGA Architects, a California-based architecture firm.

Additional fetures

St. Joseph Center will offer comprehensive supportive and intensive case management services at the 4507 Main Street housing community in response to mental health crises. These services include individual medical and psychological case management, nutritional and food counseling.

Moreover they inlude job training and placement, financial education and money management. Furthermore, St. Joseph Center will offer public benefits advocacy for programs like Social Security, General Assistance, and CalFresh as part of its commitment.

EAH Housing on the other hand will offer property management services.

Commentary on the EAH Housing supportive housing community

Los Angeles County needs 568,000 more affordable housing units to meet the demand of its renters with the lowest incomes. This is according to the California Housing Partnership.

“4507 Main Street housing community will build high-quality housing opportunities for persons who are homeless or struggling financially to help close this gap. Furthermore, the project will help the neighbourhood. We are therefore excited to partner with St. Joseph Center to make it a reality,” said Laura Hall, president and chief executive officer of EAH Housing.

According to Ann Sewell, general manager of the Los Angeles Housing Department on the other hand, these are exciting times for the Los Angeles Housing Department and for its partners creating supportive housing.
