Plans for the construction of the CMNTY Culture office and entertainment complex in Los Angeles are well on course. The acquisition process of the Sunset-Highland site where the development will come has been completed.

The project is developed by CMNTY Culture, an independent music and media enterprise.  Philip Lawrence, a music producer, and Thomas St. John, a business manager, started the business.

Pronounced as “community” the firm bought a parcel at 6767 W Sunset Boulevard to start the project last year. The parcel was bought for US$ 9.1M. Recently, they closed on a $44 million purchase of the three last lots at the project site. This is according to a press release from Parkview Financial.

Parkview provided the financial muscles.

The proposed CMNTY Culture Campus was created by HKS and landscape architect Hood Design Studio. It will have a total of 50,000 square feet of music studio/production space.

Moreover, there will be 430,000 square feet of creative office space, 4,400 square feet of retail space, and 10,000 square feet of area for artist hospitality. In addition, there will be a 500-seat outdoor performance arena and 10,000 square feet of teaching and performance space.

Two towers that are joined by an elevated green space make up the development. The entire structure will be covered with a screen of louvres. The latter is made up of “custom-formed” aluminium panels. The panels will swoop down from the towers to the lower elevation like a curtain.

Controlled shading will be provided by the louvres, which will also have lights inside of them to illuminate the entire building at night.

Commentary on the project

“This loan gave Parkview Financial the chance to fund a land assemblage at Sunset and Highland, one of Hollywood’s most prominent intersections. We believe this well-conceived and architecturally stunning project can be a competitive product offering in this market, said Parkview founder and chief executive officer Paul Rahimian in a news release.

Media, tech, and entertainment companies have continued to intensify their presence in Hollywood over the past few years. Content producers require a physical epicenter, a location that celebrates their work and the power of community, according to Lawrence.

“We live in a new era where creatives and their audiences seek opportunities to collaborate and interact, not just in the digital sphere, but in person,” added Lawrence.
