Construction of the Rock City Hotel is ongoing in Ghana’s Eastern region of Nkwatia in the city of Kwahu. Dubbed Ghana’s Golden Castle, the hotel is set to become Africa’s largest and world’s fifth largest resort once completed in 2025.
The project has been under development for over a decade now. The actual construction works began back in 2008. Recently Bryan Acheampong revealed that at the moment a total of 880 hotel rooms are being built. Conference rooms with a capacity of 2,200 people as well as 45 meeting rooms for smaller groups are also under construction. Acheampong is the property owner and Ghana’s current Minister of State in charge of National Security.
When fully complete, Rock City Hotel will have a total of 2,700 rooms. Moreover, it will feature a world-class aquarium and Water Park, a zoo, an 18 and nine-hole golf course, and more. The development is targeting meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) and also positioning as a family and fun destination.
Rock City Hotel will reportedly play a significant part in not only Ghana’s but entire Africa’s tourism industry.
Rock City Hotel partial opening
Beautifully tucked into the Kwahu-Nkwatia Mountains, the hotel was partially opened in November 2019. Because it is not fully complete, the hotel currently offers limited services. These services include a total of 608 rooms with amenities, such as complimentary wireless Internet access. Extra amenities include restaurant dining guides, in-room massages and slippers, a personal chef, children’s slippers, and housekeeping.

Additionally, the hotel also offers about 20 restaurants and 15 bars/lounges, 2 outdoor pools, 14 coffee shops/cafes, spa services, a 24-hour front desk, and coffee/tea in a common area. Furthermore, it has a snack bar/deli, laundry service, self-serve laundry, concierge services, luggage storage, and free self-parking.
About 650 Ghanaian Cedis which is the equivalent of US$ 112 is the cost of a standard deluxe room at the Rock City Hotel per night.
