A combined smoke and natural ventilation system from SE Controls Africa is helping create a comfortable and safe environment for visitors at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The award winning discovery centre was opened by the Gauteng Department of Education to help educate school children in mathematics, science and technology in the Gauteng province. The venue has also held competitions for the final of AQALIBRIUM and the SAICE-WRC Schools Water competition.
The new west wing building will greatly expand the facilities that are available to accommodate the discovery centre’s growing collection of educational resources. The three-story building also has two additional laboratories, four conference suites, a large exhibition area and additional office space. A 75 parking bay basement car park will provide ample and safe parking for visitors coming to the center.
The combined smoke and natural ventilation system uses SE Controls’ own SECO N 24 40 24V dc chain actuators, OS2 control panels, MCP fireman’s override switch, standalone rain sensor and thermostats.
Russell Cramb of SE Controls South Africa, explained “Our client required a smoke and natural ventilation solution but as ventilating through the roof was not an option in the building, we able to provide the solution through a combined system using window automation and having our OS2 control system integrate into the BMS system for optimal operation.”
SE Controls Africa specialises in the design and supply of advanced smoke ventilation and natural ventilation solutions to meet the needs of architects, contractors, building services engineers and facilities managers worldwide.
