Surveyors under the guidance of Private Practising Surveyors of Nigeria (APPSN), Lagos Chapter has organized its annual workshop. According to a released statement, this move is apparently to enhance the knowledge of its members. The core objective of the association is to ensure that practitioners continue to maintain high professional ethical standard
The Butten Centre, Alausa, venue of the event, saw the cream of the crop come to argue out the theme of discussion: “Corporate Business Ethics: Re-positioning Surveying as an Enterprise.”
In his keynote address, the association’s chairman, Odetunmibi Olufemi, a fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, noted that the practice of surveying has gone through different stages over the years. Additionally, it is also a critical profession whose product is key to the national development. However, Mr. Olufemi noted that various developments in the nation have had their toll on the way the profession is being practiced.

Relevance of surveying
According to him, the continuous advancement in the information and communication technology (ICT) industry has also greatly reduced the boundaries within the profession. This, he said, placed responsibility on the private practitioners to ensure their practice remains relevant in the society.
He further added that since land administration will always have importance, there is need to monitor global approach. This will enable them remain active players. As such, they will thus be able to re-position the practice of surveying.
Mr. Olufemi emphasized that the surveyor practice should sync with the international best practices. They therefore must ensure that practitioners are in tune with what operates in other regions.
In his address, the 1st Guest Speaker, Mr. Alabi J. Olusanya noted that corporate business should not go for profit making alone, but for the betterment of their communities as well as mentorship of young surveyors.
