Tender for the construction operation and mainatanance of 72 MW Solar Power Plants in Bahrain, Sakhir region, has been advertised. The tender was adverdised by Bahrain’s Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs.

The project’s 20-year contract will feature the building, owning, operation, and maintenance of grid-ted solar photovoltaic (PV) panels. The panels will each have a minimum capacity of 72 MWac. In total, the project’s contract features the development of eight solar plants.

These will be within the premises of the University of Bahrain, Al Dana AMphithatre, Bahrain International Circuit, and Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Centre. The panels for the solar plants will be built on roof tops of car park shades. Additionally, Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations as well as ground within the premises are also earmarked sites.

Qualification for the tender for construction of 72 MW Solar Power Plants in Bahrain

To qualify for the tender for construction of 72 MW Solar Power Plants in Bahrain, firstly,  bidders will need to be involved in the business of solar PV energy. In addition, the bidders need to have successfully commissioned at the very least ten grid-tied solar PV projects. Five of the ten need to have been for Solar car park projects.

Moreover, bidders should have commissioned at least 40 MWac grid-tied solar PV projects. The project ought to have been carried out in any country globally in the last three years, from 2019 – 2021 to be precise.

The Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs spoke about the project. Yasser bin Ebrahim Humaian said that the project’s launch comes as a vital part of Bahrain’s vision. The country aims to adopt a circular carbon economy to bring carbon emissions to net zero by 2060. The Minister further expressed that it would be in line with Bahrain’s national commitments to combat climate change as well as protect the environment.
