The shell building construction for the Blankenbaker Logistics Center in East Louisville was recently completed by Hunt Midwest, a real estate developer from Kansas City. According to Tony Borchers, the vice president of acquisitions and development in Hunt Midwest,  the company is currently improving the building’s interior for tenant use and this is expected to be wrapped up by September.

Located at 13150 Plantside Drive, south of Interstate 64 and west of Interstate 265 in Louisville, the $22 million logistics center sits on 322,831 square-foot of land proximal to a FedEx Ground facility in the area. The building designs for the Blankenbaker Logistics Center include insulated precast wall panels, an ESFR sprinkler system, motion sensor LED lights, and 4 drive-in doors.

Standing at a clear height of 36’, the Blankenbaker Logistics Center also features 48’ D x 52’ W structural bays, 140’ deep truck court, 44 trailer parking spots, as well as 180 parking stalls. Other notable details of the center include build-to-suit office spaces, 60’ speed bays at docks, and 32 dock doors expandable to 88.

A cross-section of experts were involved in the construction of the project. The architectural design was done by H2B Architects, while Mindel Scott and Associates, a civil engineering consulting firm engaged in engineering and surveying services along with Willett Engineering, supervised the project. Kelley Construction and Summit Construction were the locally owned construction companies, specialized in construction management that were hired to work on the project.

The Blankenbaker Logistics Center has already been leased by Michigan-based automotive supplier, Piston Automotive and tenant modifications are currently ongoing in the building, according to Tony Borchers, the vice president of acquisitions and development of Hunt Midwest.

Mike Bell who is the senior vice president of commercial development in Hunt Midwest, explained in a statement that the company was drawn to Louisville because there are two Ford manufacturing plants, along with numerous major interstates, and the UPS Worldport. He also pointed out that with the UPS Worldport in close proximity, supply to the world from Louisville can be achieved in a few hours,  which makes the project’s site an interesting area.
