Recently a US$ 50M fibre cement board factory was opened in Abujas, Kuje neighborhood. The New Material Nigeria Limited, a Chinese company that specializes in building homes and producing fiber cement boards, built the factory.

Speaking during the 16th Abuja International Housing Show Jackie Dai Hui revealed that the fibre cement board factory in Abuja is already producing fiber cement boards of international standards.

Despite being a member of the Sinoma/CNBM group, New Material Nigeria Limited has also put together strategies to improve the technical abilities of Nigerians. This consequently will help the West African country’s citizens understand building technology. Sinoma/CNBM is a Fortune 500 firm with headquarters in Beijing, China.

Financial advantages of fibre cement board

Regarding the financial advantages of employing fibre cement boards, Hui stated they save material and labour expenses and shorten project delivery times.

He added that the company’s Kuje, Abuja fibre cement board factory has the most modern facilities for industrial safety. In addition, the facility has passed examinations by the federal fire department regarding fire safety. According to Dai Hui, the manufacturer also buys its raw materials in the neighborhood.

“Yeah, we source locally. That’s why we have the confidence to grow and stay in Nigeria. For instance, a few months ago we were able to locate a source for one of our materials, paper pulp, from Kano”.

Dai Hui added that for the cement, the factory use Lafarge, Dangote, and Bua. The other items are locally sourced stones and quartz sand.
