The construction and development of the 17.85-kilometer Ofankor-Nsawam dual carriage road have commenced. Maripoma Engineering Limited is working on the project, which is projected to be completed in 24 months.

This was discovered when Mr. Kwasi Amoako-Atta, the Minister of Roads and Highways, paid a working visit to the construction site. The minister wanted to familiarize himself with the status of the work. In addition, the aim of the visit was to learn first-hand about some teething problems the contractor is currently facing. This would reportedly help the ministry to come up with effective solutions.

Scope of the Ofankor-Nsawam dual carriage road project

The Ofankor-Nsawam dual carriage road project entails the construction of a two-kilometer piece of road with a total of eight lanes. In addition, the project entails the construction of a 16.85-kilometer stretch of road with 10 lanes from Ofankor to the White House. Moreover, the dual carriage road will gain two more lanes, along with two extra service lanes to serve neighboring villages.

Additionally, the Pokuase to Nsawam dual roads will receive three more lanes on each side. Nine pedestrian footbridges and an underpass will also be installed. The Ofankor-Nsawam dual carriage road project will also entail the expansion of drainage systems, street lights, and pedestrian walkways.

Remarks on the project

Mr. Kwabena Bempong, the project’s consultant, briefed the minister and his entourage. He said that the contractor had started clearing the sites in preparation for the actual construction works. Sufficient plans have also been established for compensating affected property owners according to Bempong. In addition, he said that those whose homes were located on the road reservation would be given preferential treatment.

“We are ready to start working. The work will be undertaken day and night. This will help us finish the construction on time,” affirmed the project’s consultant. Furthermore,  Bempong said that it was not the government’s goal to let anyone suffer while working on the project.

In conclusion, he complimented the Ga West Municipal Assembly. He said that this was especially for constantly supporting the Ministry throughout its most trying times.
