The price of Cement in Ghana

With the construction industry growing at a lively pace, cement market in Ghana has continued to expand, encouraging both local producers and importers to make investments for the future. Cement prices in Ghana have risen by US $0.45, which is the second increase for cement prices in the last two months. Cement producers have had to raise their prices as the cost of raw materials increased due to the depreciation of the local cedi currency. There are different cement companies operating in Ghana. The following are the most popular brands, and their prices:

GHACEM Cement

GHACEM is Ghana’s primary cement market player. The company was founded in 1967 by the government in partnership with Norway’s Norcem AS. The participation of foreign investors in the company has continued since, and the current majority owner is Heidelberg Cement, one of the largest building materials companies in the world, with a 93.1% stake. The government holds a 5% stake, leaving J A Addison, founder of GHACEM, with 1.9%.

GHACEM has a wide range of cement varieties and each variety has its own price depending on the town it is being sold. The following are the factory level prices in Tema and Takoradi:

In Tema, a 50kg bag of GHACEM Super Strong 42.5R goes for GHC32.638 while in Takoradi it goes for GHC32.496. A 50kg bag of GHACEM Super Rapid 32.5R goes for GHC32.284 in Tema, while in Takoradi it goes for GHC32.142. Another GHACEM brand known as GHACEM Extra 42.5N goes for GHC33.583 in Tema, while in Takoradi it goes for GHC33.205.

Each grade of GHACEM cement is used for different construction purposes including molding of blocks, plastering and mixing concrete.

Dangote Cement

Dangote Cement is the second most popular brand in Ghana. The company has been operating in Ghana since 2011. The cement is shipped from Nigeria and bagged in Ghana at the company’s terminal in Tema.

Dangote Cement has only one variety of cement in the market. A 50kg of this particular cement goes for GHC35.55 factory level price.

CIMAF Cement

CIMAF is another popular cement brand in Ghana. The company was founded in 2011, and it currently produces 3 kinds of cements. CIMAF 42.5R goes for GHC33.20, CIMAF 42.5N goes for GHC32.70 while CIMAF 32.5R goes for GHC32.30 factory level price.

Diamond Cement

Diamond Cement is another popular brand in Ghana that has been in existence the country since 2002. The company is located at Afla in the Ketu South District of the Volta region. Diamond cement currently produces only one type of its kind in Ghana, which goes for GHC36 to GHC40 factory level price depending on the town.
