The construction of the $1.3bn Kaiser Permanente hospital complex in Sacramento Railyards is advancing ahead of 2029 opening. Major progress on the hospital, among other projects, have been made in the Railyards in recent months. The hospital also includes a parking structure to facilitate access to the facility once completed. The others include the Sacramento Republic FC’s stadium and the Paint Shop concert venue.

“We have people living in the Railyards now, and pretty soon we’re going to have more living in the Railyards as they seek out those amenities that make everyday life just really enriching,” Josh Leachman of Downtown Railyard Ventures said. The Railyards, once the historic center of Sacramento’s railroad industry, is now becoming one of the region’s largest redevelopment efforts. “This is going to dramatically increase the footprint of the downtown core,” Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty said. “It’s going to be a big win for our economy, but also, you know, a go-to place for people to hang out.”

Scope of Implementation on the Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Sacramento Railyards

The Kaiser Permanente hospital in the Railyards is one of the most expected projects that is scheduled for opening in 2029. “You see the garage very prominently. It’ll be 1,500 stalls when we get finished,” Jay Robinson, a spokesperson for Kaiser, said. “And then you see the steel for the hospital tower, and that’ll be 310 beds, eight stories.” On the other hand, a historic 19th-century brick building is also being converted into a new concert venue called the Paint Shop.

“Everything that you see here, this plaza and the building on the left there is under construction,” Leachman said. “That work will be done by the end of 2027. We’re going to have new concerts going in early ’28.” Leachman also said the broader goal is to create a dense, active district that supports housing, entertainment and everyday life. “We’re laying in the critical amenities for a just a really vibrant 24 seven type of community,” he said.
