EdgeConneX Data Center in Bastrop County

$1.4bn EdgeConneX data center campus project in Bastrop County, Texas makes headway with TDLR fillings submitted. Two $700 million Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) construction filings were submitted last weekend. The project will be located in Cedar Creek within Bastrop County, about 35 miles southeast of Austin. Global data center provider EdgeConneX is planning to build the campus as the company seeks to grow its footprint in the Lone Star state.

EdgeConneX’s new data center will be located on a nearly 180-acre property at 6682 FM 535 in Cedar Creek. Moreover, both new TDLR filings bear that same address. This new project comes as some Texas residents have pushed back against data center projects in the Austin area. One of the reasons is the mounting fears that they could impact scarce water supplies in drought-stricken small towns.

However, In a December 2024 meeting, Bastrop County Commissioners Court awarded EdgeConneX a 10-year property tax abatement based on the project’s plans. Other data center projects in Texas also include the Red Oak data center campus.

Rising demand for artificial intelligence and cloud computing infrastructure is accelerating large-scale data center construction across the United States, with Texas emerging as one of the most active development hubs.

DataBank has secured a $2 billion construction loan to fund the first phase of a new data center campus in Red Oak, Texas, as demand for artificial intelligence and cloud computing infrastructure continues to drive rapid expansion across major US markets.

Scope of Implementation on the EdgeConneX Data Center in Bastrop County

The first $700 million filling for the EdgeConneX data center in Bastrop County is for a project called “EDCAUS11.” Its scope entails the construction of nearly 730,000 square-foot, one-story data center. It also includes supporting office space and associated site improvements. According to the filing, the building is designed to be a type 2-B construction classification and will be fully protected by an automatic sprinkler system.

On the other hand, the second TDLR filing is for a project named EDCAUS12. This will also be a nearly 730,000 square-foot-one story data center with the same scope of work as the first. Both projects are expected to begin construction in June, with completion dates set for the end of December 2028. Details on TDLR filings are subject to change without notice. This is not the only data center campus EdgeConneX has planned for the area. The Virginia-based company is also in the process of developing a $440 million data center facility at 6752 FM535 in Cedar Creek.
