Survey shows number of hotels in Africa on the rise
The number of hotels in Africa is on the rise as several hotel operators have expressed interest in the African market in the coming years while a lot other have developed new hotels in the region, travel portal TravelWeekly.com now says.
TravelWeekly.com names some of the hotels that are interested in the African market or those that have already constructed some hotels in Africa.
Four Seasons
In the Seychelles, for example, Four Seasons will acquire the Desroches Island Resort which will reopen in late 2017 after extensive reconstruction. The Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island will comprise of 40 beach suites each containing a private plunge pool and 11 villa residences. It features nine miles of beaches on the Indian Ocean and once it reopens, the resort will offer water activities for instance diving, snorkeling and fishing on top of land sports like cycling and hiking.
Other than Seychelles, Botswana is also looking promising as Cresta Hotels is set to open a hotel in Maun.
Group Operations Manager, Mr. Jonathan Cox confirmed the news and said that the hotel will be an 83-room Cresta Maun Resort and will open in early 2017.
He further said that the resort will be well situated for adventure-seekers, travelers and business tourists alike and that this will attract more investors to construct hotels in Africa since there are several tourist attractions in the continent.
Leeu Estates, a five-star boutique property with 17 rooms and suites, recently opened its doors in South Africa. The 19th century property sits on 68ha Leeu Estates just outside Franschhoek next door to Richard Branson’s Mont Rochelle estate.
Rooms in the new development feature curated artworks& sculptures and marble bathrooms with several their own terraces and fireplaces. Room rates at Leeu Estates begin from about US$560 for two people sharing a classic room inclusive of breakfast, unlimited internet access and national phone calls.
InterContinental Hotel Group
Moreover, the UK multinational brand InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) is set to construct a hotel in Senegal- InterContinental Dakar which will be their first to open in the country. The hotel will form part of the Dakar Cliffside Resort set to be one of the most pleasing communities in Dakar consisting retail space, offices, apartments and villas covering an area of 270,000m².
Additionally, the group’s Director of Operations in Africa, Simon Stamper confirmed that they will enter three new countries in Africa in Ethiopia, Uganda and Algeria over the coming years.
