The largest purpose-built music facility in Toronto, a seasonal outdoor concert venue has been unveiled, named Rogers Stadium by Live Nation Canada. Set to open at former Downsview Airport (YZD), the open-air stadium will have a capacity of 50,000 and will be located at the northern end of the former airport runway. Put up on a 370-acre site, the structure will visually anchor and energize the city and region’s economy. Specifically, the stadium is estimated to inject an estimated CAD$80- $100 million into the local economy. Additionally, visitors will have easy access through the 400-series highways and public transit connections.

The Rogers Stadium Toronto Opening Date
The Rogers Stadium will be open by summer of next year and will be a temporary structure. Furthermore, Northcrest, who owns the property, is developing a CAD$30 billion transformative masterplan over the coming years. It involves transforming the entire airport site into seven new neighbourhoods, totalling over 28 million square feet of residential space, housing over 55,000 residents. Additionally, there will be 7 million square feet of commercial and cultural spaces and 74 acres of parks, green and open spaces. As such, it has been labelled as one of the largest mixed-use developments in North America.

Erik Hoffman, the president of music at Live Nation Canada pointed out that the Rogers stadium will meet the increasing demand for stadium-level acts touring today. Furthermore, this will ensure Toronto fans don’t miss out on world-class artists. “This a natural evolution of our stadium programming and we’re excited to bring this new venue to life.” The cost of the project was not disclosed by Live Nation.
Other Open-Air Venues in Toronto
The largest concert venue in Toronto only hosts 5,000 more people, at the Rogers Center. Home to the Toronto Blue Jays, a baseball team, the stadium is located in downtown Toronto. The other open-air venues in the city are much smaller, such as the Budweiser Stage, hosting nearly 16,000 people, and the Canadian National Exhibition which has a capacity of around 10,000.

Further, the stadium has already garnered attention as it is set to host Oasis on their 2025 reunion tour. The brother duo from Britain, who last played in North America nearly two decades ago, have already sold out tickets in other venues.
