The main construction works of the Alamein Downtown Towers in New Alamein City on Egypt’s northern Mediterranean coast have begun. The works began with the concrete casting of the 300-meter high Iconic Tower. The tower is one of the 5 towers that will be built under the project.

According to the contractor, China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), the Iconic Tower has the largest base plate in Africa so far. The concrete casting therefore will be implemented in two stages. The first casting square is approximately 5,632 m³ while the second casting square is about 14,051 m³. The total concrete volume will be approximately 19,683 m³.

Remarks on this milestone

According to Chang Weicai the Iconic Tower is one of the most important Alamein projects. Weicai is the general manager of CSCEC Egypt. Speaking during the inauguration event he emphasized that CSCEC Egypt will maintain its excellent building standards. Furthermore, he said that the company would seek to contribute to the construction of the new city.

On the other hand, Zhang Xiuchuan said that the company has engaged many local engineers and laborers since the commencement of the project. Xiuchuan is the project manager of the Alamein Downtown Towers Project. The engagement of the local community Xiuchuan said has provided many job possibilities and economic benefits to the residents.

Comments from a local employee

Moreover, Omar Hassan, the project’s quality control engineer, said “I’m really happy to have the opportunity to participate in this project, where I can learn new things every day, and this employment has helped to enhance the lives of my family.” He described the project as yet another triumph of China-Egypt cooperation, which has provided many prospects for Egyptian growth.

“This project includes 24 Egyptian engineers and nearly 300 Egyptian employees. It’s fantastic to have this opportunity and experience of working on such a large project” Hassan stated.

Overview of the Alamein Downtown Towers project

The Alamein Downtown Towers project will be developed on an 80,000-square-meter property located about 90 km from the northern coastal province of Alexandria. It involves the construction of a total of five residential towers with services, overlooking an artificial lake. Three of the five will be residential towers, while the fourth and the fifth will be business and hospitality towers.

Moreover, one of the towers will be 250-meter high with a surface area of 465,000 square meters. This tower will be constructed within a period of 45 months. The other four will be 200-meter high with a surface area of 320,000 square meters each. The four are scheduled to be completed within a span of 39 months.

China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) is the project’s main contractor.

Agreement for construction of residential skyscrapers in New Alamein City

New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), which is an Egyptian government authority affiliated with the Ministry of Housing has signed an agreement with China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) for the construction of five residential skyscrapers in New Alamein City, which lies on the Mediterranean Sea in the northwest region of Egypt.

The agreements were signed at a virtual signing ceremony that was witnessed by the Egyptian Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Essam el-Gazzar, the Egyptian Ambassador to China Mohamed El Badry, and the Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang.

Congratulatory message

The Chinese Ambassador to Egypt congratulated the CSCEC and the Egyptian ministry on the new project of cooperation.

“The People’s Republic of China and the Arab Republic of Egypt have worked for hand in hand to continuously achieve new development results,” the ambassador said, adding that China’s Belt and Road Initiative is deeply integrated with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

The general manager of the CSCEC, Zheng Xuexuan on the other hand affirmed that signing the contract is an important achievement for both sides to deepen cooperation and achieve a win-win situation, affirming that the CSCEC will implement this project with high standards, and contribute to the development of the North African country.

Downtown towers project implementation in New Alamein City, Egypt, begins

Egyptian Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El-Gazzar has laid the foundation stone for the implementation of the Downtown Towers Project in New Alamein city, northwest Egypt.

The Egyptian Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities said that ​​New Alamein was not a summer city but rather a city for housing, residence, and work (in agriculture, industry, tourism, entertainment, and services) and that it was primarily a regional center for the northern coast, adding that the Downtown Towers project would create a development area in New Alamein will be similar to the Central Business District of the New Administrative Capital.

“We will keep on working and building our nation, and providing Egyptians with the urban product, which is in line with the modern Egyptian urban renaissance in the era of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi,” he affirmed.

Contract Awarded for Downtown New Alamein Mixed-Use Project, Egypt

A contract to offer construction management services for Downtown New Alamein, a major mixed-use project in New Alamein City on Egypt’s northern coast was awarded to Hill International, a major player in construction risk management, by City Edge Developers on behalf of the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA).

The Downtown New Alamein mixed-use project will be carried out in two phases the first of which will consist of three 30-, 35-, and 35-story residential buildings, as well as a three-level podium housing amenities and services, with a total built-up area of 275,000 sq m.

The second phase will consist of a 40-story hospitality tower and a 40-story commercial tower with a three-level podium housing commercial, retail, dining services, and other facilities, with a total built-up area of 215,000 square meters.

Hill International team will offer construction management services for the building phases such as project management, contract administration, construction management, and commissioning.

Remarks on the contract 

About the contract win, Waleed Abdel Fatah, Hill Senior Vice President Africa Region, stated that the Downtown New Alamein mixed-use project was an ambitious idea for Egypt’s tourism business. He said that the Marina Towers will provide luxury guest rooms and accommodations along the city’s Mediterranean shoreline, as well as convenient access to New Alamein’s numerous cultural and entertainment activities.

He explained that it was their responsibility, as the project’s construction manager, to guarantee that the crucial component of the mega-development was constructed according to plan and satisfied all financial, schedule, and quality objectives.

The project is expected to be fully completed in 2025.
