The Cochin Airport Terminal 2 project has progressed from contract award to operational passenger infrastructure at Cochin International Airport. Godrej Interio secured the original contract for interior and MEP works for transit accommodation. CIAL has since completed and opened the resulting 0484 Aero Lounge, adding accommodation and business facilities beside Terminal 2.
The original contract covered approximately 55,000 square feet and included HVAC, fire protection, ELV and building management systems.
CIAL has since delivered the facility as a 50,000-square-foot airport hospitality development. The project now supports passengers, visitors and airport-based business activities.
Cochin Airport Terminal 2 project delivers 0484 Aero Lounge
CIAL inaugurated the 0484 Aero Lounge on September 1, 2024, at Terminal 2. The facility sits beside the business jet terminal and between the domestic and international terminals.
The development includes 37 guest rooms and four suites. It also provides three boardrooms, two conference halls and a co-working space.
Furthermore, the facility includes a gym, spa, library, café lounge and restaurant. Its location outside the security hold area allows passengers and visitors to access the facility.
CIAL designed the facility around short-stay accommodation and business services. Guests can book rooms through six-hour, 12-hour and 24-hour packages.
The airport operator also appointed an operating and maintenance structure for the facility. CIAL’s tender documents identified operations, marketing and maintenance as part of the operator’s responsibilities.
CIASL subsequently began full operations at the 0484 Aero Lounge in October 2024. The company generated Rs.2.38 crore in revenue from the facility during the reported period.
The lounge welcomed more than 25,000 guests during its first year. It also recorded approximately 12,000 room bookings during that period.
Cochin Airport Terminal 2 project supports wider airport expansion
The completed lounge forms part of CIAL’s wider airport infrastructure development program. The airport operator continues expanding its international terminal and improving passenger facilities.
CIAL reported that its international terminal expansion had reached 50% completion for the new apron construction. Terminal works were also progressing as part of the wider development program.
The airport also continues developing cargo, commercial and other aviation infrastructure. These investments support CIAL’s strategy to increase both aeronautical and non-aeronautical revenue.
Cochin International Airport handled 11,519,356 passengers during 2025. The latest passenger figures strengthen the case for continued airport infrastructure investment.
The development also reflects a broader Indian airport construction boom. Airport operators increasingly combine terminal expansion with commercial, hospitality and passenger-service facilities.
GMR Airports, for example, plans to invest up to $2 billion across Delhi and Hyderabad airports. Its program targets major capacity and infrastructure upgrades over five to seven years.
This development provides context for the GMR airport expansion plans covered in our recent report. The two programs demonstrate how Indian airport operators are investing in capacity and passenger-focused infrastructure.
The Cochin project therefore extends beyond the original interior and MEP contract. It now represents a completed airport hospitality facility within CIAL’s broader infrastructure expansion strategy.
Cochin International Airport Terminal 2 Project’s Completion Goal
By 2024, the projects aims to have complete its development works. In total, its scope of work covers 55,000 square feet. Moreover, it includes ELV, fire protection, HVAC and BMS works. Cochin International Airport Terminal 2 Project marks the Indian company’s third collaborative project with CIAL.
Since 2015, Godrej Interio has been in partnership with the CIAL (Cochin International Airport Limited) authorities. Collaboratively, they have been working towards significant renovation work, particularly, for the infrastructural enhancement of the international airport. Its special purpose vehicle of the Keralal government, Kochi International Airport Society raised funds for initial construction in a couple of months. Business Today India reports that about Rs 300 crore funding was raised from investors. These included both private and public companies, NRIs as well as cooperative societies, and exporters.
