Indonesia’s high-speed railway has garnered lots of attention worldwide. President Joko Widodo officiated its inauguration, signifying a pivotal Belt and Road Initiative project. This revolutionary development is set to transform regional transportation, cutting travel time drastically. With new technology and a modern payment model, it represents progress for Indonesia.

The Indonesia-China joint venture, PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China, played a vital role in Indonesia’s high-speed railway development. It aligns with the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative’s vision for global connectivity. Notably, the Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia, Lu Kang, graced the ceremony with his presence. The utilization of a Chinese railway system, along with Chinese technology and components, marked the first instance in which an overseas high-speed rail construction project fully embraced them, symbolizing the global reach of the Indonesia high-speed railway.

Indonesia High-Speed Rail, Embracing Modernization and Eco-Friendly Transport

The Indonesia high-speed railway will revolutionize travel between the two cities, reducing the current three-hour journey to just 40 minutes. President Widodo marveled at the innovative technology, the swiftness of construction, and the pioneering payment model adopted for the project, all of which represent a new era for the country.

With a press of a touchscreen and a signature, President Widodo officially launched the 142-kilometer high-speed railway. Subsequently, he joined a diverse group, including government officials, diplomats, artists, and social media influencers, on the journey. President Widodo revealed the bullet train’s official name – WHOOSH, inspired by the sound of a swiftly moving train. It also signifies W (waktu, or time), H (hemat, or economical), O (operasi, or operation), O (optimal), S (system), and H (hebat, or amazing), encapsulating the essence of the bullet train. The president emphasized the importance of embracing new endeavors. He drew parallels between the bullet train and Indonesia’s metro rail transit and light rail transit. Furthermore, he underlined the significance of tackling challenges head-on, recognizing that experiences, though sometimes costly, are invaluable stepping stones in the journey of progress, particularly concerning the Indonesia high-speed railway.
