The Abia State government has unveiled its ambitious plan to facilitate the construction of an Eco-Friendly Energy Hub for private sector stakeholders in the oil and gas industry. Specifically, Abia State Government is to allocate over 100 hectares of land, alongside essential infrastructure and a conducive environment. This envisioned hub, established through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), will encompass a modular refinery, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) facilities, and Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) processing plants.
Speaking at a forum in Lagos, Governor Alex Otti emphasized the state’s commitment to creating an energy transition hub. The hub will not only meet industry needs but also reduce the carbon footprint associated with oil and gas operations.
Projects To Be Undertaken To Aid The Eco-Friendly Energy Hub.
The governor outlined the state’s plans to establish an importation bank to harness these resources effectively. The establishment of an eco-friendly energy hub intends to bring together various stakeholders to establish modular refineries. They include petrochemical plants, fertilizer facilities, and logistics infrastructure within the state.

Commissioner for Petroleum Mineral Resources, Joel Ogbonna, conveyed the governor’s vision for the project. He highlighted the project’s aim is to drive economic growth in the state and ensure prosperity for its residents. Ogbonna stated, “The Abia State government’s decision to provide land and infrastructure for the project is a significant step towards achieving a sustainable energy future. The project will also create job opportunities for the citizens of Abia State and boost the state’s economy.”
Governor Otti underscored the government’s commitment to invest in technology and infrastructure. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of decarbonization to minimize the state’s carbon footprint. Gov Otti Stated the role of good governance in transforming these aspirations into a tangible reality.
Governor Otti emphasized that they designed the eco-friendly energy hub with the state’s future in mind. The agenda is aiming to ensure that every action taken contributes to securing the well-being of future generations. He called for partnerships in the oil and gas sector and resource management to achieve economic prosperity, environmental preservation, and social equity in the state.
Otti extended an open invitation to all stakeholders, including the private sector, media, and government, to participate in the state’s energy transition journey, pledging to provide the necessary infrastructure and a supportive environment for investors interested in establishing modular refineries and petrochemical plants in Abia. This transformative project, executed through a Public-Private Partnership, aspires to collectively address ecosystem conservation and deliver environmental benefits.
