Rivers State Governor, Governor Wike, has pledged N500 million to the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) to initiate the construction of the state chapter’s permanent secretariat. The promise came after the NYCN state chairman, Mr. Chijioke Ihunwo, urged the Governor to address the plight of the youths by disbursing their accumulated subventions.
During a solidarity rally supporting Sim Fubara’s governorship bid, organized by All Progressives Congress (APC) leader Tony Okocha in Port Harcourt, Ihunwo reminded the Governor of the N70 million in outstanding subventions. He expressed satisfaction with the improved security and infrastructure development in the state and called for the reservation of 10,000 jobs for the youths instead of political godfathers.

In response, Governor Wike assured that the NYCN leadership would oversee the allocation of the 10,000 jobs. He directed the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria to immediately collect their N70 million in accumulated subventions from the Government House.
Furthermore, Governor Wike announced a sum of N500 million to commence the construction of a modern state secretariat in Port Harcourt. He dismissed allegations of excessive spending on drinks, stating that he preferred to enjoy himself rather than use his funds to cause harm to families.
Taking a swipe at his predecessor, Chibuike Amaechi, the Governor claimed that Amaechi accomplished little during his eight-year tenure, while he, as a junior minister, brought N500 million to two different institutions and initiated various projects.
Governor Wike urged the youths to support Fubara’s governorship candidacy to ensure the continuity of ongoing development projects. He also informed them of ongoing legal actions against Tonye Cole and Amaechi over the sale of state assets, urging them to vote and safeguard their votes to secure the expected victory for Fubara. The Governor invited the youths to gather at the rally venue for an all-night celebration of Fubara’s anticipated triumph.
