UK-based Mace has completed the construction of the world’s longest cantilevered building, One Za’abeel Development. This new addition to the Dubai skyline features a record-breaking 230-meter steel and glass sky bridge. The contracted company insights that this is one of the most complex engineering projects that it has delivered in history. Investment Corporation of Dubai owns the building, its completion gives it several official world records. One of these records is the Guinness World Records title for the world’s longest cantilevered building. Overall, the 230m long link is 100 meters above the ground. It also spans a major four-lane motorway, connecting the development of the two towers. The record-breaking section itself extends 67.3m beyond the main tower. The 8,500 tonnes of steel that is used to build the sky bridge is held by a one-of-a-kind cantilever launcher built on-site.
The Uniqueness of the World’s Longest Cantilevered Building, One Za’abeel.
The One Za’abeel development has officially broken four world Guinness World Records, some of which are considered a magnificent feat. One of these records is the world’s longest cantilevered building, a height of 67.227 meters. Furthermore, the building holds the record for the largest mesh screen on a building at 28,665m2, with multiple screens. The building also now holds the record for the world’s longest architectural projection-mapped display at 272.25 meters. Lastly, the One Za’abeel building currently also holds the record for the largest project-mapped display in the world at 30,622m2. Other construction companies involved including WSP and Alec were also involved in the building development. The world’s longest cantilevered building holds a huge significance in the boost of Dubai’s construction industry. It markets the construction industry in the country as one that is determined to achieve its endeavors.

The Scope of the One Za’abeel Development Project

Mace has already contributed to numerous buildings and programs in the UAE apart from the world’s longest cantilevered building. Some of these projects include the Jumeirah Beach Residences, Expo 2020, and the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. It also includes the Hyatt Capital Gate Hotel and the world’s longest indoor ski slope in the desert at Ski Dubai. The firm is planning to open offices in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, targeting an increase of almost 50% in its workforce in the region, from 240 to 350, in the next year.
