The second and last phase of the San Pedro Promenade was officially launched by the Port of Los Angeles today. This follows the  $53.7 million Phase I of the Promenade completion in October 2021. Construction on the $31.4 million Phase II project will begin, representing a total Port investment of more than $85 million. The project is located along the Main Channel portion of the planned West Harbour commercial development on the LA Waterfront

The 30-foot wide promenade’s second phase of construction is scheduled to be finished in 2021. It will extend its southern end to the newly developed West Harbour area, currently under construction. When the two-phase building project is finished in the spring of 2025, it will create almost one mile of beachfront open space and access to the LA beachfront. It will run parallel to the Port’s main channel from Berths 74 to 83.

Phase II components also include utilities, grading, the installation of new piles, and the construction of pier and deck structures. Numerous distinguishing features introduced during the first phase portion of the project will also be included. These include the lampposts, new trees, drought-tolerant plants, as well as a pathway made of concrete and granite pavers.

Tim McOsker, a member of the Los Angeles City Council, noted that there are “incredible projects happening in the Port of LA throughout the Harbour Area to make the Wilmington Waterfront and San Pedro Promenade more inclusive and inviting spaces for everyone.”

History on the San Pedro Promenade development

Construction on the West Harbour project began in December 2022. The 42 acres of outdoor area for dining, shopping, fresh markets, offices, waterside activities, and a potential open-air amphitheatre for live entertainment will be part of a public-private commercial development. The initial stage of the West Harbour renovation is projected to cost the developers, The Ratkovich Company and Jerico Development, about $165 million. Phase I of West Harbour is slated to debut in 2025.
