DP World is thrilled to announce the opening of the Lusaka Commercial Cold Store (LCCS), a  World-Class cold storage facility in Lusaka, Zambia. As the first of its kind in the country, LCCS is poised to transform Zambia’s cold storage industry, catering to the needs of local meat, poultry, and fish producers, as well as the thriving hospitality and retail sectors.

Deep Catch Group, DP World’s Market Access Consumer business, specializes in wholesale, distribution, and cold storage of perishable foods. With a successful track record in providing strategic cold storage solutions in South Africa and Namibia, Deep Catch is now expanding its offerings to Zambia.

Mohammed Akoojee, CEO & MD: sub-Saharan Africa at DP World, sees LCCS as a significant milestone, anticipating its role in enhancing the availability and quality of locally produced and imported perishable products. The facility, strategically located and equipped with advanced infrastructure, is poised to drive economic growth and facilitate the seamless flow of goods in Zambia.

LCCS is designed to accommodate Zambia’s unique climate, featuring dedicated areas such as a bulk freezer section, a chiller store, a dry goods storage area, and a processing zone for food handling. The facility includes a receiving and dispatch area with efficient mobile and static pallet handling systems.

Capacity of the Lusaka Commercial Cold Store  Facility

Upon full operation, LCCS will have a capacity of up to 5,500 pallets, distributed across freezer, chiller, and dry storage sections. This extensive capacity ensures effective inventory management for businesses relying on cold storage solutions.

Bruce Denyer, Head of Market Access Consumer: sub-Saharan Africa at DP World, emphasizes the alignment of LCCS with Deep Catch’s expansion strategy in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region. The facility is expected to play a pivotal role in facilitating the efficient importation of affordable protein products while supporting local food producers in reaching their markets.

DP World, with its commitment to reimagining the global supply chain, aims to provide integrated end-to-end logistics.
