Think of Cyberjaya as one of Malaysia’s up-and-coming melting pot of technology. Some even think it is slowly becoming the Silicon Valley of this country, famously known for its Petronas Twin Towers and the second tallest building in the world, the Merdeka 118 Tower. However, with the commencement of the construction of the KUL2 Hyperscale Data Center in Cyberjaya, it is pretty close to fruition.
Another location, Nusa Cemerlang Industrial Park in Johor, can actually give it good competition in the near future. However, Cyberjaya remains one of the preferred investment locations for technology companies, particularly those aiming to put up hyperscale data centers. The truth of the matter is that Cyberjaya is currently home to 15 data centers owned and operated by some of the giant names in the tech industry, such as Microsoft, Bridge Data Centre, EdgeConneX, Equinix, and NTT, and inquiries from other tech firms are still coming in.

In May of 2023, the company made an announcement that they would develop a second data center campus at Cyberjaya, Selangor, in Malaysia. This project is a true testament that Cyberjaya is turning into one of Southeast Asia’s important data center infrastructure hubs. KUL2 also signals Vantage’s intention to expand its footprint in this region.
The then proposed KUL2 has an additional estimated value of around US $3 billion or RM13.32 billion in investment.
The KUL2 project is right next to the KUL1 campus and will sit on around 35 acres. The location of 256,000 square meters, which will house ten facilities in total, was well thought out to deliver low latency connectivity to major cities in Southeast Asia, including Jakarta, Singapore, and Bangkok.
Because of Vantage Data Centers’ reputation, expect the campus to provide nothing short of sophisticated services in terms of reliability and security. Expect multiple layers of physical and virtual security measures to ensure that threats are limited if not totally eliminated.
Groundbreaking Highlights
KUL2 Hyperscale Data Center’s groundbreaking ceremony has seen the attendance of prominent figures from the industry and the government. Some of these personalities are as follows:
- Minister, Investment, Trade & Industry – YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz
- Minister, Digital – YB Gobind Singh Deo

- Chairman, Cyberview Sdn Bhd – Dato’ Romli bin Ishak
- CEO, Cyberview – Kamarul Ariffin Abdul Samad

The project targets to deliver an IT capacity of 256MW to satisfy the increasing customer demand for large-scale processing and data storage facilities. The campus will also serve the needs for cloud and high-density computing, which is a step closer to Vantage’s goal.
It also sets to feature a 500MVA N+1 substation, which will be provided by Malaysia’s largest electricity utility company, Tenaga National Berhad. This ensures stable and reliable delivery of power requirements on the campus.
