In recent updates, UK-based Mace has been awarded the programme management partner role on the Hong Railway Extension project. Estimated at a cost of $15.8 billion, the project is grand in its scale as it seeks to extend major railway lines of the city. The role was awarded by Hong Kong’s MTR Corporation, a majority government-owned public transport operator and property developer. Mace said it will create a project management office (PMO) in Hong Kong during the project’s implementation. This will enable the smooth implementation of PMO functions and digital systems to support the client’s transformational aspirations. It will also facilitate the achievement of digital project goals and vision. The partnership aims to enhance further the capital works team’s PMO capability and enable the team to establish best-in-class integrated project controls, digital services, and NEC [new engineering contract] contracting,” said Mace.
Significance of Mace Coming on Board in Delivering the Hong Railway Extension Project
The appointment of Mace to ensure that the Hong Kong Railway Extension project is of unprecedented significance. The UK-based company is known for its stellar performance as one of the world’s most prolific consultant construction companies. Their expertise is needed to ensure that the Hong Railway Extension project rolls out smoothly and expeditiously. The appointment also aligns with MTR’s ambitions as it pursues a number of major projects in 2024 to improve Hong Kong’s complex transit system. The transit system facilitates approximately 4.5 million passenger journeys each weekday with nearly 100% punctuality. “The MTR Capital Works team has been working relentlessly on the new railway projects that will enhance Hong Kong’s railway network and keep the city moving,” said MTR’s Carl Devlin. “I am looking forward to working with Mace and benefiting from their international capabilities and experience as we deliver these projects.”
