The controversial $2bn+ “Project Tango” data center in West Palm Beach, Florida is advancing following official approval. Ahead of Thursday’s Zoning Commission meeting, county planning staff are recommending approval of Project Tango. They note that the proposal meets county zoning rules if the developer follows a long list of conditions. However, the proposed project has sparked months of opposition from residents who live nearby. Many have raised concerns about how much water the facility would use and how noisy it could be. They also criticized its location saying it is so close to neighborhoods and Saddle View Elementary School.

The developer also revised the proposal before Thursday’s hearing by reducing the amount of planned data center space while increasing warehouse space, making the overall project slightly smaller than originally proposed. The Zoning Commission is expected to consider the proposal Thursday, July 2 and make a recommendation. On the other hand, the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners will have the final say at a later public hearing.
