The broader STEP Ahead buildout now extends to more than 2.4 gigawatts of new generation by 2028 when the Orange County Advanced Power Station, which completed its first fire milestone in early 2026, is included. Reported 12th September 2025: Cleveland, Texas, is set to gain a new power station as the Public Utility Commission of Texas approved Entergy Texas’ plan to construct the Lone Star Power Station. The natural gas power plant will contribute to grid reliability and meet upsurging electricity demands across Southeast Texas.
The project is an investment of $799 million and will generate approximately $951 million worth of local economic activity during the construction phase. Upon completion, Lone Star will be able to serve more than 110,000 residences, with service anticipated to commence sometime mid-2028.

The plant is a central component of Entergy Texas’ long-term plan, STEP Ahead, to expand generating capacity, grow local economic prosperity, and keep customer prices flat. STEP Ahead also includes the Port Arthur Legend Power Station and Orange County Advanced Power Station, which are under development.
Together, these projects will add more than 1.2 gigawatts of capacity to the Southeast Texas grid by 2028, advancing Entergy’s position as a leader in providing affordable, reliable energy to one of the country’s most rapidly growing service areas.
