Abu Dhabi-Dubai High-Speed Rail

The Abu Dhabi–Dubai high-speed rail project is a planned railway development intended to connect the two cities in the United Arab Emirates. Etihad Rail issued a tender for contracts covering the design and construction of civil works and station packages for the line.

The tender notice was released with a submission timeline extending to May, and companies began forming joint ventures to participate in the bidding process. The project developer indicated that requests for proposals would be issued following prequalification stages, including clarification processes with participating firms.

The railway development is structured in multiple phases, with design specifications indicating train speeds of up to 350 km/h and operational speeds of approximately 320 km/h.

Other Projects:

Other than the Abu Dhabi-Dubai high-speed rail, another major project taking shape is the fourth federal road project. UAE authorities have unveiled details of the $1.63 billion fourth federal road project as project implementation takes shape. The scheme is a major highway program aimed at boosting inter-emirate connectivity. Furthermore, it will increase road capacity and ease traffic congestion. Its scope entails a 68-kilometer corridor with 10 major interchanges and four flyovers. It also include six to eight lanes in each direction.

The Scope of Implementation of the Abu Dhabi-Dubai High-Speed Rail

The four phases proposed in the Abu Dhabi-Dubai high-speed aim to add further connectivity to other areas within the UAE gradually. The project’s first phase entails the construction of a railway line linking Abu Dhabi and Dubai. It is expected to be operational by 2030. On the other hand, the second phase will entail the development of an inner-city railway network. The network will entail 10 operational stations within the city of Abu Dhabi. The third phase of the railway project entails the construction of a connection between the cities of Dubai and Al-Ain. Lastly, the fourth phase entails the development of an inter-emirate connection that will link Dubai and Sharjah. Stretching from the Al-Zahiyah area of Abu Dhabi to Al-Jaddaf in Dubai, the 150-kilometer first phase of the project is expected to commence.
