Hadiba Gas Field Project

The Hadiba gas field project in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE), has completed its first development phase, strengthening the emirate’s domestic gas supply. Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) has delivered the milestone after advancing the field from discovery to production in less than a year.

The development includes appraisal drilling, gas-gathering infrastructure, pipeline installation and commissioning work. Furthermore, the completed phase has more than doubled SNOC’s existing gas production, supporting Sharjah’s long-term energy security.

The operator now plans further development, with production increases targeted for 2027 and stable output expected by 2028. SNOC has not publicly disclosed the project’s total construction and development cost.

Hadiba Gas Field Project Advances through Key Construction Milestones

SNOC discovered the Hadiba gas and condensate field in May 2024, northeast of the Sajaa gas field. The discovery established a new opportunity to expand Sharjah’s domestic gas resources. Subsequently, SNOC accelerated appraisal and development activities to bring the field into production.

The first phase covered several technical and construction milestones. These included drilling appraisal wells, analyzing well data, installing gas-gathering infrastructure, laying pipelines and commissioning the facilities. Together, these activities established the infrastructure needed to move gas from the field into production.

However, the project encountered logistical challenges during execution. Regional shipping disruptions and restrictions on material supplies complicated procurement and delivery. Nevertheless, SNOC completed the phase despite these constraints, demonstrating its ability to coordinate development activities within an accelerated schedule.

The field’s appraisal program also provided encouraging evidence of its commercial potential. Masoud Al Hammadi, SNOC’s Executive Director of Exploration and Production, said the results confirmed reservoir quality, favorable pressure characteristics and promising production performance across the field. Consequently, the findings strengthened confidence in the field’s longer-term development prospects.

Hadiba Gas Field Project Prepares for the Next Development Phase

SNOC has begun preparing the next development phase, with work expected to accelerate during 2027. The operator aims to increase production before the field reaches stable output levels in 2028. However, SNOC has not publicly detailed the next phase’s full construction scope, additional well count or investment allocation.

The upcoming work will build on the first phase’s appraisal results and existing gas-gathering and pipeline infrastructure. Further development could help SNOC increase the contribution of Hadiba to Sharjah’s energy supply. Nevertheless, the operator has not announced a specific production capacity for the field or a detailed schedule for individual construction packages.

SNOC Chief Executive Officer Khamis Al Mazrouei described Hadiba as one of Sharjah’s significant recent gas developments. He also highlighted its role in the corporation’s long-term growth strategy. As development progresses, the field is expected to support rising energy demand while strengthening local supply resilience.

The project also builds on earlier appraisal work. In November 2025, SNOC reported successful drilling and testing of the Hadiba-02 well, which reached a depth of 13,200 feet. The well revealed additional gas reservoirs and formed part of the continuing evaluation program. This earlier work helped establish the technical basis for further field development.

Hadiba Gas Field Project Strengthens Sharjah’s Energy Infrastructure

Hadiba is Sharjah’s fifth onshore gas and condensate field, joining Sajaa, Kahaif, Mahani and Muayed. Its development supports the emirate’s efforts to expand indigenous gas production and improve energy security. Furthermore, the field’s phased development allows SNOC to use appraisal findings to guide future investment and construction decisions.

The completed phase marks an important transition from initial discovery to a broader development program. Nevertheless, the overall project cost, detailed contractor appointments and full future infrastructure requirements remain undisclosed. SNOC’s next priority is increasing production while establishing stable operating performance by 2028.

The project reflects a broader push across the Gulf to expand natural gas production and strengthen energy security. Similarly, Qatar is advancing major offshore gas infrastructure through QatarEnergy’s multibillion-dollar North Field development. The two projects highlight regional investment in production capacity, supporting infrastructure and long-term gas supply.
