Amazon plans a $10 billion data center campus in Montgomery City, Missouri, marking one of its largest infrastructure investments in the state.
The project, announced alongside state and local leaders, is expected to create about 400 direct jobs and thousands of construction roles. Officials also expect the development to generate hundreds of millions of dollars in property tax revenue over the next 25 years.
Montgomery City, Missouri will host the new campus as Amazon expands its cloud and digital infrastructure footprint across the U.S. Midwest.
Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe said the project reflects growing confidence in the state’s workforce and long-term economic outlook. The development builds on Amazon’s existing Missouri operations, which employ more than 10,000 workers across fulfillment, logistics, and retail facilities.
Amazon said the data center campus will support long-term cloud computing demand while strengthening local infrastructure and energy systems. The company is working with utility partner Ameren Missouri to connect the facility to the grid.
Community and Economic Commitments
Alongside the investment, Amazon pledged more than $7 million in local contributions. This includes $3 million for emergency dispatch services, over $1 million for a community space at the county fairgrounds, and additional funding for local programs.
A separate $150,000 community fund will support small local projects and grants in Montgomery County.
Energy and Infrastructure
Amazon said it will cover 100% of the costs required to connect the data center to the electric grid, including infrastructure upgrades driven by the project’s demand working together with Ameren Missouri.
The company’s approach aligns with Missouri’s large-load customer regulations, which require data center operators to pay their share of grid-related costs to avoid shifting expenses to residential ratepayers.
Water and Environmental Measures
Amazon is also working with Arable Labs to improve irrigation efficiency for Missouri farmers. The initiative is expected to reduce water use by up to 100 million gallons by improving monitoring and reducing unnecessary irrigation.
Local Support
Local leaders said the project will expand economic opportunities across the region, from construction and contracting work to long-term technical roles tied to data center operations.
State and regional economic development officials described the investment as part of Missouri’s growing role in the digital infrastructure economy, driven by cloud computing, AI workloads, and enterprise demand.
Additionally, Amazon’s $10 billion Missouri data center campus announcement comes the same day as Google’s $1.5 billion expansion of its Jackson County, Alabama data center, highlighting a broader wave of hyperscale infrastructure investment across the U.S.
